Eizar Jacob Tanjung: From INDOLEAGUE Rising Star to the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup

From the community fields of Strathfield Park to the national stage, Eizar Jacob Tanjung is living proof that dreams built in INDOLEAGUE can reach far beyond Sydney.

The 2024 Bambang Pamungkas Young Player of the Season recipient, recognised for his creativity and his vital role in Minang Saiyo Tigers FC’s Grand Final triumph, is now preparing to represent Indonesia at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Currently playing for Sydney FC II in Australia’s National Premier Leagues competition, Eizar has impressed at club level with his maturity, vision, and flair. Those qualities caught the attention of national selectors. For the teenager, the call-up to represent Indonesia marks both a new chapter and the continuation of a family legacy.

“I’m leaving tomorrow to train and prepare with the team,” Eizar said with a confident smile. “We’ve got a pretty easy group apart from Brazil, but I think we can get the three points against the other teams.”

Eizar reflected on how INDOLEAGUE brings people together and strengthens the Indonesian community in Australia.
“Bringing the community together through football is something not everyone can do,” he said. “It’s good to be around everyone, to know everyone, talk to everyone. It connects our Indonesian community in Australia with Indonesia itself.”

His football story began long before his name made headlines. His father, a proud Indonesian footballer, played for Minang Saiyo Tigers FC from 2004 and continued representing the club for several years, leaving a legacy that Eizar would later carry forward when he helped lead the same team to a Grand Final victory two decades later.
“If I was to thank one person, it would be my dad. He’s helped me progress as a player and as a person off the pitch.”

Now on the verge of the world stage, Eizar remains grounded and focused on what has always guided him.
“Just like any other environment, you’ve got to focus, work hard, and you’ll perform.”

His message to the next generation of Indonesian players is simple but powerful.
“Never stop dreaming. If you stop dreaming, you won’t achieve those goals you want to achieve. Keep working hard, keep playing, and make sure you enjoy it. Because if you don’t enjoy your football, there’s no point.”

At just 17, Eizar Jacob Tanjung stands as a bridge between the Indonesian and Australian football worlds, a symbol of what can happen when talent, opportunity, and community come together. From INDOLEAGUE to Sydney FC II, and now to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, his journey continues to inspire.
